Inline Skating

About:

Inline Skating is the official term for a sport commonly called as “rollerblading”. Inline skating is believed to have started in Holland in the early 1700s as a summer alternative to ice skating. The present form of inline skating began in Minnesota in 1979. The credit goes to Scott Olsen, a hockey player who founded a company called Rollerblade and thus began the “rollerblading” craze. Inline skating was the fastest growing sport in the 1990s.

Inline skating has the following benefits:

· A good aerobic exercise and a good form of cross training for other sports
· It causes less impact on joints
· It is an equal opportunity sport for the whole family
· The risk of injury is quite low with proper instruction and use of safety gear

There are different disciplines in inline skating like downhill skating, park competitions, vert skating or vertical skating. Inline skating requires good balance and speed control, and is not a skill that is easily acquired. Wearing proper safety gear (helmet, wrist guards, and knee and elbow pads) is essential for safe skating and to prevent injuries.
